History
The story of
South Tampa
South Tampa's development began in the early 1900s as Tampa's first residential suburb. The neighborhood's character was shaped by the 1920s Florida land boom, which brought Mediterranean Revival architecture and the construction of Bayshore Boulevard — the world's longest continuous sidewalk along a body of water at 4.5 miles. Neighborhoods like Palma Ceia and Beach Park were platted during this era and remain some of Tampa's most desirable addresses. The area weathered the bust of the late 1920s and emerged as Tampa's premier residential district, a status it has held for over a century.
